(What is a Playaway?)

For more detailed or flexible searching for audiobooks in the branches, please go to our Catalog.  Click on Power Search.  Under "Type," choose CD-Book or Playaway.  Then you can use any of the other fields to limit by authors, keywords, subjects, publication year, etc.  For more detailed searching on our downloadable audiobooks, use the websites on the right for Maryland's Digital eLibrary or OneClickDigital.

Out-of-copyright books read by people who have volunteered their time and voices to this cooperative non-profit project. The vast majority are in English, but other languages and literatures are represented as well.
  • LibriVox
Cooperates with Project Gutenberg to create volunteer-read audiobooks in the public domain.
  • New Yorker Short Story Podcast
Each month, a writer reads a favorite short story from the New Yorker's archives and discusses the story with the magazine's fiction editor.
  • BooksShouldBeFree.com
Presents the volunteer-read public domain books from Gutenberg and LibriVox in an engaging graphical manner.
  • Podiobooks
Serialized self-published audiobooks. Listeners can choose to receive the episodes or chapters of their books via an RSS feed or by listening directly from the site.
