Summer Reading - Every Hero Has A Story!

Sign up for Summer ReadingDownload and Print Reading Lists by GradeFind events to do this summer

June 1 - August 9  For Children ages 0-12

REGISTER for the Summer Reading Program, online or at the library, any time between June 1st and August 9th and EARN your first superhero badge.  After you sign up, you can PICK UP a voucher at your library for a free ticket to a select Frederick Keys (or Bowie BaySox, at participating branches) baseball game.

READ to yourself, to others, or have someone read to you. Read anything, including books from your school's reading list.

KEEP TRACK of how many books you read (or someone reads to you) on your online reading log.

EARN superhero badges for reading 2 books and 6 books.

READ 4 BOOKS AND PICK UP your first prize and be entered to win tickets to a Baltimore Orioles baseball game. (Must read 4 books by July 31 to qualify for the drawing.) 

EARN your fourth virtual superhero badge and PRINT a reading certificate for meeting your first reading goal.           

READ 8 BOOKS AND PICK UP your voucher for a free book from the FOLMC Bookstores and be entered to win tickets to the Maryland Science Center.  EARN your fifth superhero badge.

All Children Excel

ACE - All Children Excel are specialized programs and services developed by MCPL with content for Early Literacy and to help children learn.

With the focus on STEM/STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics), these programs, technology, and materials are designed to help children achieve in these areas:

Little Explorer Go! Kits can be checked out for children 3 to 6 years old that contain several books, science tools, and a mini-iPad with preloaded apps.

Young Voyager Go! Kits can be checked out for children in grades 3 to 6 that contain several books, science tools, and a mini-iPad with preloaded apps.

Chevy Chase Library 50th Anniversary Essay & Art Contest

Chevy Chase Library

Imagine what Chevy Chase Library will look like in 2065!  Or imagine what Chevy Chase looked like when it opened in 1965!

Write an essay or draw a picture about the Chevy Chase Library of the past, present, or future.

Deadline for submissions is August 15, 2015.

Details:

  • Submission will be judged on originality, creativity and effectiveness in conveying the stated message. 
  • One submission per person in art and one in essay; essay no more than 500 words; art work no larger than 8 ½ x 11.”
  • Winner will be selected from three age categories:  age 7 and under, ages 8-11, and ages 12-18
  • Winners will be notified by phone or email. 
  • Winning essays/artwork will be posted at the branch. 
  • Prizes will be announced. 
  • All entries become the property of the Montgomery County Public Library and may be used in whole or in part for promotional purposes.

Mail or deliver your submission with the contest form to the Chevy Chase Library.

AWE Digital Learning Stations

Early Literacy Bilingual and After School Edge Stations are special computers preloaded with child tested software that makes learning science, math, geography and reading fun for young children. These programs are designed to inspire children to become life-long learners through education and technology.

For children, ages 2-10.

Early Literacy Bilingual Stations are at all branches except for Kensington Park, Noyes, and Potomac.
