Troubleshooting

Maryland's Digital eLibrary Consortium / Overdrive

While our catalog and circulation system are being upgraded over Labor Day weekend, you will most likely be unable to access your account in the Maryland Digital eLibrary.  If a title you have placed on hold expires before you can pick it up, please fill out the Support Form  so we can restore your place in the queue.

Audiobooks for adults, teens, and children from Overdrive.

  • The lending period can be 7 or 14 days, whichever you choose.  Items cannot be renewed, but you can check them out and download them again if they are available when your loan expires.
  • You may have 4 items checked out at one time.  These 4 can be eBooks or audiobooks.
  • Checked-out items return themselves when the loan period ends.  They are never overdue.
  • Audiobooks cannot be returned early before the loan period ends.
  • You must download the free Overdrive Media Console software for Windows-based PC's or for Macs.  There is also a Mobile version for devices running Windows Mobile 5 or 6.  Upon downloading the Overdrive Media Console, open it, and go to Tools.  Then go to Windows Media Player Security Upgrade.  This upgrade must be performed before you download any audiobooks.
  • Mac users will be able to download audiobooks in MP3 but not WMA format.
  • iPod users with the newest version of Overdrive Media Console on a Windows machine will be able to listen to both WMA and MP3 audiobooks.
  • Transfer books to Supported Portable Audio Players, as tested by Overdrive.  Some titles may be burned to compact discs.
  • Some titles are always available, but you may have to place holds on others.  You can have 4 holds at a time.  When a hold becomes available, you will receive an email, and you'll have 72 hours to check out the title.

Troubleshooting

NetLibrary

Audiobooks for adults, teens, and children, including Pimsleur language courses.

  • On May 18, 2010, we simplified the sign-in procedure for NetLibrary.  You no longer need a user name and password to access NetLibrary.  You need only your MCPL library card number and its PIN.  If you use the NetLibrary Media Center software, please see our NetLibrary Troubleshooting page for further instructions about access.
  • The lending period is 21 days.  Items can be renewed one time for another 21 days.
  • You may have 10 items checked out at one time.
  • Checked-out items return themselves when the loan period ends.  They are never overdue.
  • Checked-out audiobooks cannot be returned early.
  • Transfer books to Supported Portable Audio Players, as tested by NetLibrary.  Audiobooks may not be burned to compact discs.
  • Holds are never necessary, because every title is always available.
  • You can download audiobooks directly from the website, or you can install one of two optional software choices for Windows computers: NetLibrary Media Center or Download Manager.
  • Mac users can download only MP3 titles and only via the web-based download.
  • iPod users can listen to MP3 titles only. See instructions for limiting your search to MP3 titles.

PLEASE NOTE:  Pimsleur Language Learning from NetLibrary:  Beginning in November 2009, NetLibrary changed its subscription plan for the Pimsleur titles.  Whereas previously we received all the Pimsleur titles with unlimited usage, now we select specific titles, which will be available on a one-copy/one-user-at-a-time model.  Some of our selected titles have multiple copies.  You will be able to place holds.

MCPL also circulates Pimsleur language-learning CD’s from our branches.
